Travel Skincare EssentialsRead on for our guide to travel skincare essentials that will keep you looking and feeling your best while on holiday.

If you’re as passionate about skincare as we are, then you are familiar with the dread of figuring out how to adhere to toiletry restrictions without compromising your skin on holiday. While it looks as though these liquid requirements will soon be scaled back, carry-on may still be your luggage of choice and so packing light is a priority.

Travel Skincare Essentials

We’ve curated a few beauty travel hacks—essentials that will take up less space in your carry-on while being effective and providing the care your skin will need on your getaway.

The Cleanser

While it is always ideal to do a double cleanse starting with a cleansing oil, when space is limited we recommend doing a double cleanse with special cleansing gel ($18 – 50ml). Suitable for all skin types, this foaming cleanser doesn’t leave your skin tight or dry, just perfectly clean.

BONUS: you only need to dispense a dime size amount, so a 50ml travel size skincare container will last for longer trips.

The Exfoliant

It’s likely that you’ve heard of daily microfoliant ($25 – 13g) as it is the top selling Dermalogica product worldwide for many years now. Gentle enough for daily use, it contains brightening rice enzymes along with papain and salicylic acid to polish away dulling surface dead skin cells. This is especially helpful to keep skin texture in check when wearing and reapplying sunscreen on a beach holiday or visiting a polluted city—both of which can lead to congestion.

BONUS: The beauty of this exfoliant is that it is a powder that won’t take up any precious space in your liquids ziploc.

The Mask

Travel Skincare Essentials Consonant Hydrextreme Charcoal Sheet Mask

Flights are extremely dehydrating for the skin, so a sheet mask that is infused with a proprietary plant extract that outperforms hyaluronic acid tops our list of travel skincare essentials. The Consonant Hydrextreme Charcoal Sheet Mask ($12 for 1 / $45 for 4 pack) is compostable and is infused with a blend of water binding humectants and barrier-replenishing botanicals. Perfect post-flight or before a night out when you want your skin to look calm and dewy.

BONUS: These thin single-use packs don’t take up much room in your luggage and there is no risk of leakage.

The Sunscreen

In our humble opinion the Jane Iredale Powder-Me SPF® 30 Dry Sunscreen ($78 – 5g / refill $69- 7.5g) is a winning product anywhere and anytime. This mineral sunscreen comes in a range of tones (including translucent) and relies on titanium dioxide to provide instant broad spectrum protection. Sun damage is the number one culprit for the signs of aging, so wearing and reapplying SPF is a top priority for maintaining healthy and beautiful skin. We love how simple and effective this product is to use:

  • the detachable magnetic brush can be cleaned easily
  • the powder format saves space in your liquids bag
  • the brush-on format makes reapplying sunscreen throughout the day a breeze

BONUS: Offers no-mess protection for part-lines and can be dusted over any exposed areas of skin in a pinch.

Space saving and skin saving

The products we share here don’t cover all that you will need to bring on your trip, but including them in your travel skincare kit will ensure you minimize any potential skin issues while you are away. Not only do these travel skincare essentials save space in your carry-on, they deliver noticeable results for your skin. BONUS: They are suitable for all skin types. We carry these products in-store, so if you’re interested in making trying them out get in touch with us and we can set them aside for you to pick up.

These are just a few of our tried and true favourite travel beauty essentials that take up very little space in your toiletries bag without compromising on quality. There are a lot of other travel-friendly products out there such as shampoos, conditioners, and moisturizers that come in a bar format. Have you found any that you love? Let us know in the comments.
