What is LED therapy (also known as cold laser or phototherapy)?

The health benefits of light therapy have been recognized by the scientific community for over a century, with recent research relating to skin rejuvenation stemming from studies conducted by NASA on the capabilities of light emitting diodes (LEDs) to accelerate wound healing.

You can think of the interaction of LEDs with the skin as similar to the way that plants use chlorophyll to convert sunlight into plant tissue. When your skin is exposed to therapeutic levels of specific wavelengths of light energy, natural intracellular photobiochemical reactions are triggered. The energy delivered by the LEDs has been shown to reduce MMPs (enzymes that break down collagen and elastin in the skin) and acne bacteria, to enhance cellular metabolism, accelerate the repair and replenishment of damaged skin cells, and stimulate the production of collagen.

FUN FACT: After the age of 20, your skin produces 1 per cent less collagen annually. Therefore, replenishing and repairing connective tissue is an important aspect of maintaining healthy and resilient skin

Research has shown that LED light therapy restores the skin’s natural cellular activity which may improve skin firmness and resilience, increase lymphatic system activity, smooth skin texture, and reduce the occurrence of acne lesions, as well as the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and superficial hyperpigmentation.

The beauty of this treatment is its non-invasive nature. It is safe for all skin types, non-ablative, painless, and requires absolutely no recovery time.

In order to maximize the benefits of the LED therapy for your skin, we used a pulsed light program that lasts for 30 minutes. After a thorough consultation, your therapist will determine whether a blue light acne therapy treatment or red light therapy treatment will best address your needs and achieve your skin goals. Protective eye wear will be provided to you.
