chemical peel FAQs: let’s discuss the skin boosting benefits of a chemical peel

smooth, bright and radiant skin with no downtime

One of the least invasive and effective ways to improve the quality of your skin is with a professional chemical peel. The words chemical peel and the pop-culture images which come to mind may cause you to hesitate, but we can assure you that a customized clinical peel is incredibly safe and comfortable. Read along as we answer your chemical peel FAQs to put your mind at ease.

chemical peel FAQ #1 How does a chemical peel work?

A chemical peel involves the application of a hydroxy acid solution to the skin. These acids break the bonds that hold dead skin cells together in the upper layers of the epidermis. There are a variety of types of hydroxy acids (lactic, glycolic, salicylic etc.) and each type has a particular effect such as decongesting, brightening, and/or regenerating the skin.

With the customized clinical peel, your skin therapist controls the depth/intensity of the peel based on the length of time the peel is left on your skin as well as the number of layers applied.

chemical peel FAQ #2 What results can I expect?

Immediately following a superficial peel, some flushing and/or heat may be present in the skin. The texture of the skin will be noticeably smoother and the overall appearance will be radiant and bright. Within a few days your skin may feel a little bit dry and you may experience some flaking. This will clear up about 7 days after your treatment.

With regular visits, the general tone of the skin will become more even and luminous, and fine lines and pores will be diminished.

chemical peel FAQ # 3 Am I a good candidate for a chemical peel?

Because your therapist is able to adjust the peel based on your needs, the customized clinical peels provided at Collective Skin Care offer great results for most skin types.

Contraindications to having a peel include: facial waxing and Retinol use (within 72 hours); professional resurfacing treatments including IPL photorejuvenation, microneedling, fractional laser treatments, dermaplaning (within 2-3 weeks); active rashes, cuts, scratches and wounds, sunburns; certain acne medications (within the last 6 months)

chemical peel FAQ #4 How often should I get a peel?

For those who are looking to see rapid improvements for their skin, a series of 4-5 bi-weekly treatments is ideal.

Monthly treatments are great for general maintenance with lasting improvements building over time with each visit.

chemical peel FAQ #5 How much does it cost?

The cost of a chemical peel can range from $150 to $500 depending on the clinic and the depth of the peel.

If you opt for a superficial peel, more treatments will be required to see noticeable improvements. Generally, a series of 4 to 5 treatments is performed bi-weekly to achieve the desired results such as a more even skin tone, and smoothed skin texture.

Medium depth peels generally require just one treatment, but will pose more downtime. These treatments are usually a better option to address stubborn pigmentation concerns such as melasma.
